Parking Karma, Oblivion Edition
I am reminded (literally reminded) that some of my parking fate is self-inflicted. Like the time I was so worried about parking the car on Melrose and not having to feed the meter, that I’d parked and was halfway out of the car before I realized I was parked in the midst of a row of cop cars. Said cars were there because they’d just had a stand-off with another car. The actually...
A guide to parking in LA →
(via tumblangeles)
Today seems to be a day of things I DON’T love about LA.
But thanks to this guide, others can partake of a better parking experience. (I have gotten parking tickets in places in LA that don’t even have parking restrictions. It’s a cruel gift).
Or learn to live by these rules:
Do not ever, ever, ever park your car in Beverly Hills.
Do not ever assume that...
'Day to Day's' end severs NPR's strongest tie to... →
I feel like this article touches on something that I find myself in the constant angry throws of facing: a sense of east coast elitism that claims there’s nothing worth learning or knowing in the west. And I’m glad that, even briefly, the concept that getting rid of a news magazine like Day to Day, which was built here by NPR West to provide a more western perspective, does feel like...
Baby's Got the Bends -Round 2 of Rock Stars...
Yahoo news (ALWAYS reliably accurate) tells me there’s a feud between Miley Cyrus and Radiohead. Oh please, please let this be true. (Apparently Thom Yorke also pissed off Kanye West). Even when I find Radiohead overdone and pretentious, I will always, always relish a war between real music gods and pop princesses. It’s almost as good as: Britney Spears Conservatorship Likened to...

Another World to Die In, by Joe McCulloch.
Agreed. Completely. This totally nails the issues I had with the movie (although it doesn’t address the serious issues I have with the book itself which then translated into different issues with the film. But that’s a completely seperate thing.)
Home Restaurants 2nd Location
downtownlobby:
After the success of the first silver lake location, a much larger and mostly indoor restaurant has opened in Los Feliz. I made my 1st and most definitely not last visit this past Saturday and was very impressed. The outdoor patio is nice and will be better come summer with a warm breeze. There is a full bar available complete with specialty drinks, and with plenty of room to...
M and I Watch TV
M: I learn so much great stuff on this show!
Me: Thank god you're too drunk to remember most of it in the morning!
(In my defense, while I love Burn Notice deeply, the last thing I need is to come home and find that M has taught the cats to carry tiny motion sensors, or has actually figured out how they made those Christmas light bombs and blown up the kitchen).
Arcade Fire Smacks Back →
Honestly, it isn’t that I really believe that Arcade Fire behaved poorly (okay, I may take a little joy in that rumor because despite their talent, they are a little bit pompous and sometimes just get hailed as the saviors of indie rock which makes the tendons holding my eyeballs in strain from the rolling. Still, very talented, musically interesting, Canadian, blah blah blah).
Mostly, I...

Marcus: Man I love it when rock stars fight. http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/article/news/149542-coyne-on-arcade-fire-theyre-pricks-so-fuck-em
me: haha. rock stars fighting is some of the greatest/stupidest entertainment ever
Marcus: wayne tore 'em a new one. that's awesome. I bet he's right too
If it ever came down to The Flaming Lips vs. Arcade Fire, I'd be backing the Flaming Lips so hard. Hee. And now I just think of the Pink Robots stomping down across Canada in anger: )
Daleks on the Loose →
This just conjures up visions of a group of Daleks being corralled up in Hampshire in the early 1970s, of one of them escaping and meeting his grim fate at the bottom of the pond.
It also makes me think of them breaking free and going on a cross-country tour, taking photos and hiding out, showing up inappropriately in people’s vacation snaps.
Digital Conversion
So the same week I decided to give Battlestar Galactica another chance (some of season 2 and a whole hell of a lot of S3 left me disengaged, annoyed and frankly bored), then decided that I kind of loved the Cylons, I also got way addicted to the LA Times City Desk twitter feed.
The feed is quick, intelligent breezy updates about LA news and I find it far more rewarding than most of the NY Times...
