Rosanne Cash is putting out an album of covers from a list of 100 songs her father compiled for her in an attempt to get her to listen to “good” music, instead of whatever she was listening to as a teenager. God I love that. Who’s parent (who’s music obsessed parent) hasn’t done some version of that.

So there are three obvious things to mention about “Julie and Julia” that I want to get out of the way first: a) Julia Child’s life and story is simply more interesting than Julie Powell’s. For one, we know how it turns out eventually, and we also have more invested in the success of that story. Child was a revelation.
